- The initiative “Infrastructure as an engine for sustainable development” seeks to promote the sector in the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals and the country’s climate action agenda.
- To make this possible, Odinsa joins leading companies of the infrastructure and financial sectors, government entities, multilateral organizations, and relevant actors of the academia.
- The companies involved will work on three fundamental pillars: the contribution to sustainable development, the financing of infrastructure with innovative mechanisms, such as the so-called green infrastructure; and the formation of capacities that promote the knowledge of sustainable models.
- This alliance is in line with the goals set by Odinsa, in the framework of its sustainability strategy in order to mitigate the effects of climate change, using the Science Based Targets© methodology, with which it proposed to reduce, by 2030, 68% of the emissions associated to fuel and energy consumption.
Medellin, November 28, 2022. Odinsa, concessions company of Grupo Argos, announced in the framework of the 19th National Infrastructure Congress in Cartagena, its articulation to the initiative “Infrastructure as an engine of sustainable development” that joins the work of leading companies in the sector such as Corficolombiana and ISA; financial sector players such as Bancolombia, Macquarie and John Laing; government entities such as the Ministry of Transportation and the National Development Finance (FDN); multilateral organizations, under the coordination of the Regional Center for Sustainable Finance (CFS) of the Universidad de los Andes; and the Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure (CCI).
The initiative aims to promote infrastructure as a key sector for the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals and the country’s climate action agenda, thus guaranteeing an infrastructure that contributes to people and the planet.
To drive this initiative, the companies involved will work on three fundamental pillars:
- Contribution to the sustainable infrastructure model, with the redefinition and adjustment of standards.
- Financing infrastructure with mechanisms such as the so-called green infrastructure.
- Capacity building to promote knowledge of sustainable models and best practices among the most relevant actors in these sectors.
This alliance is in line with the goals that Odinsa has set to mitigate the effects of climate change, using the Science Based Targets© methodology, with which it proposed to reduce, by 2030, 68% of the scope 1 and 2 emissions (associated to fuel and electric energy consumption) and 15% of the scope 3 emissions (generated by its value chain).
“This initiative will make visible the role of the companies in the sector through the implementation of models that contribute to the generation of value and the mitigation of the effects of climate change. Odinsa is proud to be part of this initiative, in line with this objective we have set ourselves to be a carbon neutral company by 2025” said Mauricio Ossa, president of Odinsa.
The initiative will be effective from December 2022 and is in line with the goals that Odinsa has set in order to mitigate the effects of climate change, goals in which the company is already working, in the framework of its sustainability strategy, with concrete actions such as the replacement of lighting fixtures by LED in its operations; the use of renewable energy with the installation of solar panels and mobile photovoltaic energy equipment in maintenance and operation; the reduction of fuel consumption and the development of projects with energy efficiency standards.
Thanks to the commitment of the partner companies, the initiative will begin with the implementation of the first component, which consists of the redefinition of the infrastructure asset based on adjustments to the regulatory framework, resilience, circularity and inclusiveness standards, and a review and adaptation of existing certifications at a global level.
