Bogota, December 23rd, 2022. Odinsa, concessions company of Grupo Argos, received from the National Infrastructure Agency the approval of the prefeasibility of its Private Initiative El Dorado Max; a project that proposes the expansion and improvement of the existing infrastructure of El Dorado airport in Bogota, as well as the construction of new works to maximize its capacity, increasing it by 20 million passengers, for a total of 60 million per year.
Today, El Dorado, recognized as the Best Airport in South America by Skytrax, is consolidated as the main gateway to and from the country, both for cargo and passengers. As of October 2022, it managed to mobilize more than 630,000 tons of cargo and, in terms of passengers, it is estimated that it will close this year mobilizing more than 36 million; therefore, the initiative proposed by Odinsa is a key project for the development of the country and the city, which accompanies its positive growth and contributes to the achievement of the goals that Colombia has set in terms of competitiveness, social and economic development, boosting productivity, tourism, sustainability and generation of opportunities.
“With El Dorado Max we seek to provide an efficient and agile solution to respond to the growing demand of passengers and cargo, increasing the airport capacity and improving its connectivity with the city, to strengthen the competitiveness of Bogota and Colombia in the region” said Mauricio Ossa, president of Odinsa.
The initiative will have an investment of close to 7 billion pesos, without public resources, and among its works contemplates: the expansion of the current terminal with 36 new aircraft parking positions and direct passenger boarding; 1. 690 additional parking spaces for vehicles; the construction of a second terminal with capacity for 10 million passengers at the location of the current Puente Aereo; in addition, a better integration with the city in its road accesses, through the expansion of Calle 26, the extension of Mutis Avenue to the intersection with the Funza – Cota road, and the extension and construction of a new Transmilenio portal, with the creation of the Airport Modal Interchange Center (CIMA, for its acronym in Spanish).
Additionally, it proposes the expansion of the cargo terminal by 19,600 m2 to meet the growth in demand as the first cargo airport in Latin America and the extension of the northern runway, allowing the operation of larger aircraft.
In the feasibility stage of El Dorado Max, Odinsa will deepen in the capacity and demand studies; in its environmental and social technical studies; will carry out the required procedures before the corresponding entities, as well as the legal documentation and will develop the financial model, among other activities, to proceed with the filing and a new evaluation by the National Infrastructure Agency.
